In response to a significant number of inquires regarding the Children’s Fitness Tax Credit, the Operations Advisory Committee reviewed Scouts Canada programs as they relate to the tax credit. It was determined that Scouts Canada programs, as delivered to the program standards, promote an active and healthy lifestyle and would be eligible activities for the purpose of the child fitness tax credit.
Scouts Canada believes strongly that social and financial circumstances should not act as barriers to youth enrolment within our community programs. Through the generous donations and support of numerous families and community members, Central Escarpment Council is proud to offer financial assistance to local Scouts Canada groups who are helping youth members who would otherwise be unable to afford to participate in Scouts Canada programs.
The primary source of funding for Scouting's activities is individual membership fees. Additional funding is provided by camp and special events user fees. The financial support received from various internal and external sources, helps to reduce membership and other user fees.
Groups should consider fundraising as a way to supplement the income from fees. Groups may plan their own fundraising activities or they may choose to participate in fundraising programs offered at the Area (for example Apple Day) and National / Council level (for example Scout Popcorn).
